Blue Face Heckel Discus 5” – The Sapphire-Crowned Amazonian King
For the most discerning blackwater biotope enthusiasts, the Wild Caught Blue Face Heckel Discus (Symphysodon discus) is a true masterpiece of nature. Sourced from the pristine, acidic waters of the Amazon basin, this specific variant takes the iconic Heckel look to an entirely new level. Alongside the defining, thick fifth vertical bar (the "Heckel Bar"), these magnificent 5-inch specimens boast an intense concentration of brilliant, metallic blue striations across their face, forehead, and gill plates. This sapphire-like mask creates a stunning contrast against their warm, earthy base coloration. At a robust 5 inches, these large, sub-adult specimens are ready to become the undisputed crown jewels of your large blackwater display, offering an authentic, wild presence that domestic strains simply cannot match.

Wild Caught Brown Discus 5" (Symphysodon aequifasciatus) Care Requirements
Tank Size: Minimum 75 gallons is required. As large, 5-inch wild fish, they need ample swimming space and absolutely must be kept in groups (at least 5-6 individuals) to feel secure.
Water Temperature: 82–86°F (28–30°C). They strictly require warmer water to maintain a healthy metabolism and strong immune system.
pH Range: 4.0–6.0. They thrive in very soft, highly acidic water. Utilizing blackwater extract or botanical tannins (like Indian Almond leaves and alder cones) is strongly recommended.
Diet: Carnivorous/Omnivorous. Though wild-caught, our fish have been carefully conditioned. Feed a high-quality, protein-rich diet consisting of premium discus granules, freeze-dried blackworms, and frozen foods like bloodworms and mysis shrimp.
Tank Mates: Must be kept with peaceful, heat-tolerant species. Ideal companions include Cardinal Tetras, Rummy Nose Tetras, Sterbai Corydoras, and warm-water Loricariidae.
